The world is looking to Africa for inspiration. Fashion, music, interiors and hair are strongly influenced by African style designs and prints. The Christian Dior cruise and resort collection 2020 was no different. The collection featured ankara prints in stunning designs.
Dresses with nipped waistlines, jackets, floor length full skirts and handbags, the inspiration for the collection was said to be Moroccan, although we all know that ankara is a West African fabric. A number of celebrities have been spotted on red carpets globally in ankara outfits. Ankara has become a wardrobe staple from boardroom to red carpet. Celebrities like Beyonce Knowles, Rihanna, Fergie and Kim Kardashian to name a few, have taken the humble ankara fabric and turned it into designer threads. Due to its ready availability and versatility, ankara is the preferred fabric for events, and mixed with other fabrics like lace, crystals, beading and tulle, it’s been turned to a red-carpet staple.
