Balmain and Disney recently joined forces to mark the 30th anniversary of Disney’s classic film “The Lion King” with a striking limited-edition collection. This collaboration, under the creative vision of Balmain’s Oliver Rousteing, was a delightful fusion of African inspiration and high fashion, encapsulated in a mesmerizing film directed by Nigerian filmmaker Femi Oladigbolu.
The recently launched collection, captures the essence of the African savanna through vibrant colors, bold designs, and the artistic prowess of African talents. Featuring scenes and artwork from the beloved film, the ready-to-wear line showcases the collaborative efforts with African artists Nika Mtwana, Cassius Khumalo, and Enfant Précoce.
Filmed in South Africa with a diverse cast of models, the project highlights Rousteing’s Balmain Army, celebrating African craftsmanship and creativity. According to Rousteing, the collection is a homage to the enduring impact of “The Lion King,” resonating with his own childhood memories of the film.
