DJ Cuppy, the popular disc jockey and daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, recently made history as the first Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
She moderated the Youth Action Day at the 2024 UNGA, with the theme “The Summit of the Future – Youth Actions Day.”
In her introduction, Cuppy stated, “My name is Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, but you can call me Cuppy. I’m ‘repping’ a country called Nigeria… But it feels like I’m more your co-host because today is all about you.”
She stressed the importance of youth empowerment, saying, “It’s not about your ‘what,’ but your ‘why.’ So why are we here? We believe that youth need to be able to take action.”
Dressed in a vibrant outfit, Cuppy captivated the audience with her powerful keynote speech at the largest youth gathering in UN Headquarters history. Following her address, she energized the crowd with a high-energy musical performance.
Notable attendees included José Maria Neves, President of Cape Verde, and Felipe Paullier, Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs.
Her father, Femi Otedola, expressed his pride on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I am overwhelmed with pride as my daughter makes history as the first Nigerian to host the UN General Assembly opening session.”
Recently, she also launched the ‘Cuppy Fund’ to support talented African students at New York University (NYU).
